JANUARY'S TIP
06th January 2010
It's a month of typical remorse - when we have that post Festivity guilt trip of over indulging - when we can feel mentally and physically sluggish! So this January rather than jump on the do or die starvation diet - do your brain and your body a favour and adopt an eating strategy that puts a spring in your step as well as your brain!
A British study found that rats fed a diet of 55% total fat experienced a 50% drop in exercise stamina and a significant short term memory loss in a little as 9 days compared with rats fed a low fat diet. A "high fat hangover" which is what many of us may be feeling after the festive fun reduces heat and muscle efficiency. For maximum energy try to keep total fat intake between 20 - 35% of your daily calories - which is about 35 - 62g of fat - with most coming from super healthy monounsaturated fatty acids in fish, nuts and seeds. RECIPE section for some fabulous tasty ideas and also check out any of Joanna's books in the
SHOP which are all based within this healthy heart and healthy brain fat range.
