Carb Curfew
I developed the Carb Curfew as a tool to help people achieve their weight loss goals while boosting their energy levels, changing their shape and still living their life.
It requires a little effort at first, as with anything new, but it works and has helped thousands of people across many countries - and it can help you too.
WHAT IS A CARB CURFEW?
Carb Curfew means no bread, pasta, rice or potatoes after 5pm. Instead, your evening meal becomes rich in lean meat, fish, pulses, vegetables, fruit, dairy products and essential fats. I don’t endorse cutting out all starchy carbs from the diet as these provide a valuable source of muscle fuel for our bodies which is important to burn up fat.
HOW CAN I BENEFIT FROM A CARB CURFEW?
My Carb Curfew allows you to apply a moderate and flexible approach to eating.
It reduces bloating
Excess starchy carbohydrate intake can leave you feeling heavy and bloated – especially at the end of the day. This makes total sense when you understand that for every unit of glycogen (the storage form that carbohydrate takes in the body), you need 3 units of water with which to store it! Think of it this way – if you eat a cereal bowl serving of pasta, your body has to hold onto 3 bowls of water to be able to convert the starch to glycogen to be stored. We need glycogen, it’s an essential fuel, but since we can only store a limited amount, if we aren’t burning it through regular movement, it will be converted and stored as fat.
To ensure that you get the right balance of nutrients at the right time, I advise eating starchy wholegrain carbs at breakfast. Porridge with semi skimmed milk and a piece of fruit or boiled egg and wholemeal toast is a great start to the day! For lunch I’d recommend a small jacket potato with tuna or an open chicken sandwich and if you need a mid-afternoon snack involving carbs that’s ok too – but not after 5pm.
This very simple action provides you with two great body and energy benefits:
1. It reduces calories without calorie counting.
By cutting out bread, pasta, rice, potatoes and cereal after 5pm you naturally reduce your calorie intake without much effort. By replacing the carbs with more fruit, vegetables, lean meat, fish and slow releasing energy-providing pulses, you won’t feel hungry.
2. It boosts your energy
My Carb Curfew helps balance your nutrient intake. You will be eating more slow-releasing carbohydrates which directly impact on your energy levels and keeps them steady whilst boosting your intake of essential vitamins and minerals.
Implementing my Carb Curfew allows you to get the right balance of calories and nutrients at the right time of day. I find it very effective and a realistic tool that I can easily include in my life, fuelling me with energy, mentally and physically and I don’t feel that I’m depriving myself of the things that I enjoy. As a Mum, I also feel happy that it’s benefiting the whole family.
